Nursing Home Out, Apartments In?
Developer, Tom Metcalfe, contacted the BPNA board to inform neighbors that he has abandoned the plan to construct the Silver Oaks Residences, an assisted living center at Bryan Street and Washington after receiving opposition from the neighborhood.
He says plans are now to build a 54 unit apartment complex instead. He further explained that no replatting or variances are needed. He plans to finalize financing and submit his request to the city within in the next few weeks. At that time he will also have a rendering of the complex that he can share with the neighbors.
The lot has sat vacant for several years and although Metcalfe had placed his sign indicating Silver Oaks was coming, no progress was made as far as development.
