Another phase of the Gateway to the Arts District has been completed with the initial murals by Jose “Sparx” Rimerez. For three weekends in the hot August sun, he created a theme of art, music, and theater to welcome everyone to our thriving arts district. You may have also noticed the sidewalks, center median, and landscaping being cleaned up by Bryan Place volunteers. We had a small but determined group of volunteers doing some clean up. We had a visit from Councilwoman Angela Hunt who was very impressed with the progress we are making on the project. She is going to visit with TXDOT about adding some additional lighting under the bridges and the mowing on the north side of Ross Ave. We also had a visit from Nancy Visser, our neighbor, who is with the Dallas Morning News. She interviewed BPNA President David Allen and our artist, Sparx Rimerez.
The next time you see one of these neighbors, be sure and tell them thanks for their work. Those giving of their time were: Robin Stewart, Toni Threadgill, Richard Boul, Lynn and Dale Sparrow, David Allen, Sharon Smith (tall) and Olha Prijic. Look for continued enhancements under the bridge as we work with different partners and investors to this project.
Please check out this link from an local arts blogger– great press for some additional donations perhaps: Art &Seek
Thanks to all who were able to help out and for the additional donations. There is still more to do. But for now, we hope we have a vibrant gateway for all of us to enjoy. Take a stroll downtown and come home with a smile.
I big thank you to Charlie Hill for the excellent photo of the art work.
